Ropotamo River

The Ropotamo (Bulgarian: Ропотамо, from the Ancient Greek word meaning "border river") is a relatively short river in southeastern Bulgaria. It takes its source from the Strandzha Mountains, running for 48.5 kilometres (30.1 mi) to empty into the Black Sea between Dyuni and Primorsko.

The river is most often noted for its 30 m-wide mouth that is home to an abundance of flora species, over 100 of which endangered in the country. The lower section of the Ropotamo is a nature reserve since 1940 and a protected area. The lower Ropotamo is a popular tourist attraction because of the water lilies and the rock formations above the river, on some of which white-tailed eagles nest.

Arkutino reserve

The region is known for its wild beauty and rough sea. Area of Arkutino was nature reserve and there can be found densely populated and diverse habitats ranging from islands, cliffs, sandy beaches, bays, dunes, the Arkutino swamp, to forests and meadows.

The mild climate is ideal for the proliferation of a large variety of plants, and wildlife here again comes into its own with a large variety of predatory and other animals. The Arkutino swamp is also a bird sanctuary and thus a favourite nesting place for numerous birds, and boasts some rare species of cacti.

BEGLIK TASH

The Thracian sanctuary Beglik Tash is located in the highest part of cape Beglik Tash (128 meters above sea level), near Primorsko. It covers an area of 6 decares. Therefore one of the greatest discoveries regarding the Thracian history on the southern Black Sea coast.

Pottery, stone tools and weapons, flints, coins, etc. were found during archaeological explorations. They show that the place was created in the middle of the 2nd millennium BC and was destroyed in the beginning of the 4th century AD. The lack of later constructions upon it has allowed the preservation of the unique sacred elements in their original form.

ST. ANASTASIA ISLAND

St. Anastasia Island, formerly called Bolshevik Island, is a Bulgarian islet in the Black Sea. It is located 1.5 km off the coast near Chernomorets. It is the only inhabited island off the Bulgarian Black Sea Coast.

It is named after the former St. Anastasia convent located on it. The convent had existed since the Middle Ages and was reconstructed during the 18th-19th century. It has been abandoned since 1923, when the island was transformed into a prison.

In 1925, a group of 43 political prisoners (communists and anti-fascists), revolted and escaped from the island, subsequently fleeing to the Soviet Union. In their honor, the island was renamed Bolshevik Island when the communists came into power in 1945.

Today, in addition to the monastery with its church, there is a lighthouse situated on the island, as well as a museum, a restaurant, a small quay, a conference hall and two guesthouses with a total of five rooms available to tourists. In the summer, the island is accessible from Burgas via boat services running back and forth multiple times a day.[1]

Smokinya Beach

Camping Smokinya ("Fig") is located 3.5 km south of Sozopol, between camp-sites of "Kavatsite" and "Vesselie." In the recent past the camp was an oasis for fans of caravans, bungalows or tents and there was also a nude beach. Adjacent to the campsite is the reserve "Sand lily."

The camp-site "Smokunya" is favorite place for many Bulgarian "stars" - artists, models, politicans, etc.

Currently the camping is split into two - "Smokinya" and "Fort Knox" and there are started many constructions, which leaves less space for camping at the expense of bars and restaurants.
